ILL (Inter-Library Loan) - Questions page that will hopefully lead to a simple library policy...

Please edit as necessary!

How does a vsb employee borrow books from another library?

Borrowing school TL will contact the lending librarian, requesting the item be sent by Blue Bag.  Item is returned by Blue Bag after a reasonable lending period, with renewals, if requested, being the same as regular in-school teacher check-outs.

In the case of loss of/damage to a book:

Generally, all ILLs are requested by the teacher-librarian as a loan to the school.  Instructions for interlibrary loans may be found in the Handbook and the Horizon manual.  On receipt of the item in the school library borrowing, the TL would sign the item out to the borrower.

Who is responsible for the book?

The borrower has the same responsibility for an item borrowed through ILL as he/she would for an item borrowed at the home school.  Items lost or damaged would be invoiced in the standard overdue or year-end procedures.  The borrowing school's TL would agree to follow up with a reminder.  Arrangements to pay for the lost or damaged item(s) would be the responsibility of the borrower who can be requested to address the matter promptly.  Where loss is evidently not due to any fault of the teacher or teacher-librarian, or where to pursue payment would place undue strains on collegial relations, consideration must be given, as TLs would with any borrower, to waiving the costs as a solution.
